A HARDY THRIFTY BREED

The breed acquired its hardiness from its ancestors which were kept under various climates (Atlantic climate of Aquitaine, continental climate of the foothills of the Massif Central and mountains of the Pyrénées) and very varied terrain. (alluvial plains, hills, valleys, slopes and parts of the Pyrénées foothills.) By careful selection breeders have created the easy to keep productive beef breed which we know today.

As a result of many years breeding, especially for producing animals suited for draught, these cattle have very developed bone structure, are well fleshed, have good stance and healthy limbs.

PRODUCTIVE FEMALES WITH GOOD MATERNAL QUALITIES

The productivity of Blonde D'Aquitaine females is due to good fertility and, for a beef breed, the exceptional ease of calving; one result of this is very low postnatal mortality.

A HIGH PERFORMANCE BEEF BREED:

The Blonde d’Aquitaine is one of the large bodied breeds, as are the Charolais and Limousin. Its reputation as such is not new since Garonne steers were awarded first prizes at the 1845 Poissy Show - the forerunner of today’s Paris Agricultural Show.

Moreover, well before their merger the three Garonais, Pyrénéen and Quercy strains acquired an international reputation for quality with Italian fatteners which made these strains much sought after.
